I find Catra’s relationship with Entrapta to be rather complex because Catra does seem to believe Entrapta was left behind and does empathize with her on that point. Still Catra is using in Entrapta but it seems like that is how all Horde relationships work. Adora herself had a hard time understanding friendship for friendship’s sake with Bow and Glimmer. Kids in the Horde are raised to see each other as assets first and foremost.

It’s likely that Catra thinks Scorpia and Entrapta are just using her as well and the relationship is a mutual, I find magic crystal tech for you and get you robots to play with/you make use those things to make weapons for me kind of thing. What will be interesting to see how Catra reacts to Entrapta either becoming a liability or wanting to become friends.

yep! i think that catra genuinely empathizes with both scorpia and entrapta’s feelings of being left behind. although she’s using that to convince them to do what she wants, the underlying connection is sincere. she knows exactly what to say because she feels the same way.

even with adora, their relationship was a mutual promise to protect each other. you protect me, i protect you. they were assets to each other, on top of just being fond of each other.

i think that catra will warm up to entrapta, just as she did to scorpia. she might not openly acknowledge that they’re all friends, but she’ll act in accordance to that. trusting them absolutely, looking out for them in her own way, confiding in them, etc.

but you actually bring up a very interesting idea–what if hordak decides that entrapta is too chaotic, too much of a liability, too risky? what if hordak orders his second-in-command, force captain catra, to either leave entrapta behind or lock her up for real?

if catra reaches a point at which she’ll be the one to have the power to be the one who leaves someone else behind and betray them, how will she react? will she remember how awful she felt, and how much she cares about entrapta, and refuse, or will she give in for the sake of power?

Adora was protective, sure, but did she care about getting to know Entrapta, as far as we know? Their friendship seemed pretty shallow and, from Catra’s side, as far as we know, she probably thinks they left Entrapta like she thinks Adora left her. Entrapta isn’t doing anything against her will and she said so herself, that before Catra asked no one really cared to know about what she was doing.

i mean, yeah, it was a shallow friendship. they barely knew each other, and their personalities didn’t mesh well. that doesn’t mean that adora didn’t care about her anyway. no one is obligated to click with everyone that they meet.

catra likely does think that the other princesses left entrapta behind, but she’s also blatantly manipulating her and telling her exactly what she wants to hear, specifically to further her own goals. this is…pretty transparent, given her expressions and tone of voice when she talks to entrapta. even when catra inquired about the first ones tech, it was for a specific purpose. catra may genuinely empathize with her on one level, but she’s also using her. entrapta doesn’t realize the full context of the situation, so while she’s doing this of her own free will, i think she would’ve reacted differently if catra had revealed her true intentions outright.

Also can we talk about how adorable Scorpia is? Because she’s a sweetie and deserves the universe

scorpia is amazing. she is so genuine and compassionate and friendly and protective and lovely. you couldn’t ask for a better friend, honestly. also when will she respond to my marriage proposal?? where is my luka/scorpia fanfiction???

it makes me sad to think of her life before she met catra if she’s so excited to be hanging out in someone’s room. we know that the other princesses alienated her because she wasn’t their idea of a Proper Princess, but did members of the horde also avoid her because she’s still a princess? was catra the first person to truly accept her?

regardless, i’m glad that she’s found happiness with her super pal trio. it’s what she deserves. she has so much love to give!

even though catra can be abrasive, and is resistant to being referred to as scorpia’s best friend, she does truly trust scorpia. that is huge for catra, given that she’s just suffered (in her eyes) a major betrayal. even after scorpia revealed that she was a princess, which catra instinctively distrusts, catra continued to trust her absolutely. it’s hard to doubt scorpia’s good intentions when she’s…herself

What about when Catra touched Adora’s face in 1×13?

catra is trying to continue the cycle of abuse, but she isn’t quite doing it right. she’s mixing up the approaches because she still loves adora on an instinctive level.

image

when shadow weaver abused catra, to make her feel weak, she did so primarily through overt violence and intimidation in situations where catra had absolutely no chance to fight back.

when shadow weaver abused adora, to make her feel like she was only ever powerful by her side, she did so primarily through gentle touches and false affection.

although catra is being violent towards adora at this point, going so far as to horribly scratch her back, it’s in the context of a fight between enemies. it’s very different from what shadow weaver did to catra.

catra is trying to make adora feel weak, the same way that she’s felt all these years, the same way that she thinks adora wanted her to feel all along. it’s a sick form of revenge for something that adora never actually did.

however, catra is trying to make adora feel weak by emulating shadow weaver’s approach towards adora, which doesn’t quite make sense. is adora the scapegoat or the golden child, or neither? is catra’s heart really in this? does she know what she really wants? would she let adora fall again, outside of that flashback hellscape?

catra is deeply convinced that true power is associated with creating fear, because she felt powerless and afraid all her life, and she wants that power for herself now. she literally wants what shadow weaver had, and has said so multiple times now (”i need to impress hordak so he’ll make me the new shadow weaver!”).

what she needs to realize is that this won’t make her happy, that this isn’t right, and that she’ll be no better than shadow weaver if she continues down this path.

i’m confident that she’ll realize the error of her ways soon enough, but in the meantime, her path is not a bright one.

Honestly, both sides seemed more interested in what Entrapta had to offer than in her as a person. She sounded more as an asset instead of a friend and her relationship with Scorpia and Catra managed to feel more genuine than the one she had with the other princesses.

to an extent, yeah! catra is clearly using/manipulating her in order to gain power, but scorpia just sees entrapta as a cool new friend to hug. in comparison, the only one who seemed genuinely interested in entrapta as a person on the rebellion side was bow. perfuma clearly had strong regrets about how she interacted with entrapta, but i think they could’ve been good friends if they’d had more time; perfuma was just frustrated that entrapta kept endangering their mission, which is understandable.

i’d be…intrigued to see catra react to entrapta realizing that catra was only using her and thought of her as an annoyance otherwise, like everyone else. i think it might force her to confront the reality of the path that she’s going down, because, like adora said, catra is not a bad person. if she sees someone who has done her no wrong hurting because of her own carelessness, she might have an epiphany.

Have you noticed that after the catradora fight™️ when adora is told to let go, when the horse breaks her out of that unconscious state adora comes to the realization that her bonds with people are the reason she is she-ra? Was it just me or did that seem like foreshadowing a reunion between them

i think that episode 11′s flashbacks were specifically chosen by light hope to help convince adora that attachments were Bad. light hope even showed other flashbacks involving adora’s new friends when really trying to drive that point home at the end.

i’m not sure if catra and adora will end up reuniting in the castle again, but if they are, maybe light hope will have realized that she-ra’s true source of strength is her love for her friends. if that’s the case, maybe light hope can choose some different flashbacks that time around, to help bring them back together.

i think the reason why catra is so jealous of adora’s new friends (beyond the obvious) is because:

a) as highlighted in this episode, the two of them were very attached to each other but, particularly for catra, their other attachments were rather limited. while adora was always able to socialize with the rest of the team, albeit on a superficial level, catra was always alienated from them. when adora left, catra lost her only friend, and the only person she’d ever connected with. i think this is why she’s so resistant to befriending scorpia, even though she trusts her and enjoys her company.

b) rather than interpret this as adora choosing the side of good vs. evil (as adora herself has explained), catra has repeatedly viewed it as adora choosing her New Friends over catra. i had expected catra to soften when realizing why adora was even in this place to begin with (to heal glimmer), but that actually wouldn’t align with catra’s previous actions. glimmer and bow symbolize adora’s abandonment of her, far more than the rebellion or bright moon or anything else, because she only sees it in these extremely narrow, short-sighted terms.
