I’m not going to lie, I think this may be one of my favourite Bow moments of the entire season. Even though many see him as a soft, comedic relief character, he really is the emotional support of his friends. He shows this when him and Glimmer are talking about their kidnapping, and he shows it here.
He knows Adora is trying her best. He know that she hurts because everyone is counting on her, and she feels like she failed. That’s why she apologized to him after he asked if they can still ‘fix it’. They both know they won’t be able to win, and Adora feels like it’s her fault. Knowing all of this, Bow realizes that Adora needs comfort, and gives it to her.
Basically, what I’m trying to say, is that Bow is probably the best friend in this entire series and I could never understand how someone could hate him.
to an extent, yeah! catra is clearly using/manipulating her in order to gain power, but scorpia just sees entrapta as a cool new friend to hug. in comparison, the only one who seemed genuinely interested in entrapta as a person on the rebellion side was bow. perfuma clearly had strong regrets about how she interacted with entrapta, but i think they could’ve been good friends if they’d had more time; perfuma was just frustrated that entrapta kept endangering their mission, which is understandable.
i’d be…intrigued to see catra react to entrapta realizing that catra was only using her and thought of her as an annoyance otherwise, like everyone else. i think it might force her to confront the reality of the path that she’s going down, because, like adora said, catra is not a bad person. if she sees someone who has done her no wrong hurting because of her own carelessness, she might have an epiphany.
what i like about this is that bow, the male character of the trio, is the heart of the team. in the overwhelming majority of fiction, when there’s a trio involved (or really any group), the Female Character is assigned that role.
there’s nothing inherently wrong or weak about being the emotional core of a team, but having it assigned to the female characters by default also coincided with demeaning that very role as frivolous or obligatory.
in this case, bow is important and useful and powerful as well as being the most emotionally intelligent.
Bow: All our generation wants is a nice apartment and a spouse that loves them back.
Adora: I also want a sword!
